Николай Самокиш — выдающийся представитель русской батальной живописи конца XIX — первой половины XX века. В статье анализируется один из важнейших аспектов его творчества — книжная графика, принесшая художнику всероссийский успех и славу. В своем книжно-графическом творчестве Николай Самокиш смог пойти дальше понятия «художник-иллюстратор». В рисунках орнаментального характера он добился конструктивной легкости, простоты, сочетая ее с чертами хорошо понятой монументальности.
Nikolay Samokish is an outstanding representative of Russian battle-piece painting in the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries. One of the major aspects of his creativity — the book graphics which brought him the All-Russia success and fame is analyzed in the article. In his book graphic art Nikolay Samokish is more than “illustrator”. In his graphic of ornamental character he obtained constructive easiness, simplicity combining it with the features of a well-conceived.
