Saving Libraries! About a New Book by Yu. Stoljarov

Abstract

Review on «The library in an extreme situation: the teaching and practical aid» book of Yu. Stoljarov, the Russian-wide reputation librarian professor, is given. (Moscow., 2007, 463 p.) The appearance of this new work demonstrates the increase of professional interest to the issues of safety and protection of libraries. Often libraries find themselves in the situations leading to tough and sometimes even irreversible consequences. This sort of problem is caused not only by difficult problems of modern life — it was typical for all the times. Efficient protection is necessary not only for preservation of material assets, like unique library collections, the equipment, or the building, but also for making employees and readers feel comfortable at work.
