  • In the 1950s in the context of the development of science and education in Kazakhstan, the need for qualified library staff has increased. In 1956, the training of specialists began at the Department of Library Science and Bibliography of the Kazakh State Women's Pedagogical Institute.
  • By the mid-1970s, the republic had developed a system of advanced training of librarians, which was universal, continuous, versatile, differentiated, diverse in forms and methods of education.
  • In 1991, Kazakhstan became an independent country, and the main task of further development of higher library and information education was entry into the international educational space. There were processes of decentralization of management and financing of education. The output of library specialists decreased annually. In 2010, Kazakhstan joined the Bologna Declaration.
  • In order to meet the existing needs in the country after 2018, the number of state educational grants for the training of library specialists has increased, the number of universities that implement master's and doctoral programs in the direction of "Library Science" has increased.
