With the appearance of virtual reference services people got the opportunity to take advantage of the help of specialists, who can demonstrate and provide the necessary high-quality and reliable information.

Abstract
Expansion in XVII-XVIII centuries of the territory of the Russian Empire in the East to the coast of North America gave rise to the development of the missionary work of the Russian Orthodox Church. The activities of missionaries, on one hand, were a personal spiritual heroic deed on spreading the faith, and, on the other hand, the part of state policy aimed at strengthening the statehood in the New Territories and acculturation of the autochthonous population. One of the sources, containing information on the activities of the spiritual mission in Siberia and Kamchatka in the XIX century, is periodicals.

There is discussed the book graphic art works of the renowned artist N. S. Samokish. For the first time there is analyzed the art decoration of “Coronation Collection” and “The Century of War Ministry” publications. The author explores the bloomers made by the artist-decorator of these publications.

The article presents the results of experimental-psychological study of the efficiency of three copyrighted library programs, designed to develop reading and personal characteristics of the younger schoolchildren. This article is devoted to V.I. Vernadsky - the great scholar and thinker. His scientific and public works are recognized worldwide. In the article there is analyzed, how the books influenced formation of his scientific and cultural outlook. There was used the principle of diary notes and there was made the attempt to restore the complicated spiritual phenomenon of V.I. Vernadsky basing on the scientific works, speeches, diaries, letters and memoirs of the scientist, and to determine the place of the books and libraries in his life.
