Interrelations of two types of communication cultures are considered: books and information. A formula of intelligence and intellectuality, allowing to reveal principles of book communication (The Gutenberg Galaxy) and of digitized information communication (The McLuhan Galaxy) is offered. Functioning of the Internet as the main stream of the McLuhan Galaxy is reviewed in detail.

Abstract
Article is devoted to activities of the Republican Young Adult Library of Tatarstan directed to education of tolerance of youth to individual, cultural and national distinctions of people. Here you can see the vivid examples illustrating mass design work the purpose of which is acquaintance of youth with multinational culture of Republic, familiarizing with values of tolerance. The special attention is paid to the co-projects with the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Tatarstan, the Tatar State Academic Theatre of G. Kamal, libraries of republics of the Volga region. These projects evoked a wide response of young people that intensified informative interest to literature and reading.

Abstract
The role of the Russian libraries in the perception and the development of evolutionary theory of Charles Darwin and modern (“synthetic”) theory of evolution is discussed. Particular attention is paid to the basic features of library acquisition of publications on evolutionary theory and the influence of censorship on this process. The conclusion is that due to the libraries Russia, according to K. Timiryazev has become “a second home Darwinism”, and the Soviet Union — “a second home for the modern theory of evolution”.

In this article the national origins of Tatar children’s book art formation and the influence of Russian traditions of book design are considered. The history of Tatar children’s book design art development in the Soviet period covers the field briefly. The author succeeded in eliciting some facts in the field of children’s book design in the local archival and printed sources, and these facts are produced in the article. The names of some graphic artists are mentioned.

History of Soviet dissidents is well studied, but the activities and views of Russian national-patriotic movement are known less. One episode of this activity — a serious ideological and world outlook conflict between “thick” literary magazines in 1960th is reviewed in this brief research. The theme of the hidden ideological contradictions in nomenclature and creative circles, in general, loyal to the authorities, revealed through the story of literary discussion.

Abstract
The article deals with not well studied problem of the class societies’ participation in the development of librarianship in the chief towns of the Middle Volga Region. In the second half of the 19th century the initiative of libraries’ opening often come from the citizens. They created the trustee committees, whose members served the librarianship for free, donated books, money, and actively participated in the organizing of charitable performances.

Abstract
Research libraries of the provincial scientific archival commissions had been established at the first committee meetings. The collection was born from donated books of the first chairmen and honorary members of the commissions. Firstly conceived with the aim to assist staff in their research activities they partly increased demands of the provincial nobility and students. The identifiers of the library collections were in the availability of manuscripts, official publications of supreme and local authorities, works of the scientists of local lore, the regional press. Inadequate financing of the commissions and the problem of professionalization of personnel did not allow libraries to realize all social functions.

Abstract
The article analyzes the activities of libraries and village reading-rooms in the Mari village during the Great Patriotic War. It describes the changes in libraries’ work at the beginning of the war, forms and methods of cultural and educational work. Special attention is paid to lectures, talks, newspapers and news briefs of the Soviet Information Bureau, conferences, literary evenings, collective radio programmers hearings, stands with central and local newspapers and help to the front. The article also considers the work with the rural youth and the organization of mobile libraries.
