On the round table “Books in Russia: the Future which we are creating” organized by the Special Projects Directorate of the Russian State Library and the Journal “Book Industry” within the 16th National Exhibition-Fair “Books of Russia”.

The paper examines the challenges facing libraries in the new information environment. Accessibility and preservation of information, information ethics, promotion of media and information literacy and reading, the promotion of multilingualism and diversity in cyberspace are a reflection of the global problems, solving them libraries contribute to the creation of the information society.

Lomonosov Publishing House in cooperation with the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures of the Stockholm University, the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, the Department of Modern Languages of the Uppsala University and the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences published in 2012 the unique facsimile edition in folio of “Palmquist’s Album” and the special edition of “Some Observations Concerning Russia, summarized by Erik Palmquist in 1674”, which includes the original text of Album in the Early Modern Swedish language and its translations into the Swedish, Russian and English languages, the manuscript description, the principles of reproduction and translation of Palmquist’s texts, the glossary in the Swedish, Russian and English languages as well as zoomed out edition of “Palmquist’s Album”.

Author of the article offers to unite the name of a science, which is engaged in studying of the history, theory, techniques and organizations of publishing and editorial business, under uniform term “editiology”. The tasks, subject and research methods of editiology are designated.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the Russian patronship as one of the sources for formation of public and factory libraries collections in the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth centuries (on the materials of Vladimir, Kostroma and Yaroslavl provinces).

The Nizhny Novgorod Regional Archive Academic Committee’s library collection formation long-term activities of N. Dranitsyn, who was the organizer of study of the local history and library science, is revealed in the paper. New archival materials are used. For realization of the purpose N. Dranitsyn managed to attract S. Platonov, the outstanding scientist-historian, the honorary member of the commission.

The definition of the concept of “cultural and educational activity of the Orthodox libraries”, the historical background of its origin and development stages and the main forms used of the Orthodox library in the Oryol Province are highlighted in the article. The special attention is paid to the characteristic of religious and moral readings. The system of orthodox libraries of the Oryol Province within which the main forms of cultural and educational activity were implemented is considered.

On the history of library development of the Volgograd region in the 1970’s. The analysis of the main indicators of regional libraries, of the material, staff and technical base is given. The acquisition problem and the main forms and methods of library work are considered.

Historical stages of the methodical association of the libraries of the Sverdlovsk region higher education institutions are represented and results of its activity are analyzed in the paper. Issues of relevance of methodical association as forms of professional interaction of libraries are taken up. Factors of modern interlibrary cooperation are defined: integration of professional interests, innovative orientation of activity, informal communication style.

On the training workshop “Marketing of Your Library: Customer-centric Approach” held at the Russian state Library under the direction of Dr. Christie Koontz. The workshop was attended by representatives of various types and kinds of Moscow and Moscow region libraries: federal, regional, municipal; public, scientific and technical, university, departmental, etc., as well as educational institutions for staff training of library and information sector.
