Interrelations of two types of communication cultures are considered: books and information. A formula of intelligence and intellectuality, allowing to reveal principles of book communication (The Gutenberg Galaxy) and of digitized information communication (The McLuhan Galaxy) is offered. Functioning of the Internet as the main stream of the McLuhan Galaxy is reviewed in detail.

The article is concerned with the history of creation and development of the library of officer assembly of the Finnish regiment Life-Guards. The work continues journal publications [11-14, 19, 20, 22] on the history of the military libraries of Russian army.

Abstract
The article is a mini-survey based on the usage of the methods of studying subjective views on the readers' activities. It was carried out among the students of the Bryansk State University named after I.G. Petrovsky (370 respondents) and the Bryansk Branch of Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (324 respondents). The image of a modern young reader is reconstructed on the basis of the analysis of the recorded associations to the word reading: his preferences as a reader, his expectations and culture, his readiness for the full comprehension of the printed text.

The article tells about the collection of manuscript books of collector and Old Believer P. Ovchinnikov (1843—1912), now stored in the Manuscript Research Department of the Russian State Library. The special attention is paid to early history of the collection: to features of work of the collector with manuscripts, and also to their use by other researchers. The research is based on the data of various sources — notes on books, memoirs of contemporaries about P. Ovchinnikov, the unpublished documents.

Russian State Library has the status of depository library of several international organizations and works on the basis of partnership and cooperation with the UN Information Centre and offices of other international organizations in Moscow.
The paper highlights the experience of the RSL Center of Legal Information in providing access to the authoritative international organizations information on the base of the new technological platform and a new concept of library and information services.
The description and the main functions and trends of activities of a new specialized reading room for the documents of international organizations in the Russian State Library which will be opened in the nearest future are also represented in this article.

Libraries are the integral part of cultural history of Russia. Widespread opening of school libraries in the Russian Empire began in the early 19th century. They began opening school libraries across Russia in the beginning of the 19th century. The paper aims to show the formation and development of libraries in educational institutions of Russia in the first half of the 19th century. The research is based on legislative documents regulating the functions of activity of school libraries and archival materials on the Russian history of the 19th century.

Abstract
The article considers the history of the creation and establishment of libraries for the blind as the main library in the region, and also main functions of the organization of services of blind population of the city of Samara and the region. Inevitability of transformation of a role and functions of library for the blind in the social rehabilitation of disabled persons is shown. Particular attention is paid to a new type of service for users with application of information technology. The project activities of the library, aimed at realization of possibilities of blind and visually impaired users, their rehabilitation and social rehabilitation are described.
